About this artwork

Lucas Cranach the Elder was well known for his work as a German Renaissance painter and printmaker. One of his oil on panel paintings showcases the critical scene where Adam and Eve succumb to the serpent's temptation. Cranach and his team produced over fifty variations of this theme and the exceptional quality of this panel implies that it was likely ordered by a rich benefactor. This print has been color-matched to the original and received approval from the Courtauld Gallery. Every sale aids the Courtauld's endeavors.

Express service for unframed print and posters by Royal Mail Special Delivery to arrive the next working day for an additional cost. Framed prints are always shipped by express courier.

UK - £3.95 for unframed items by 1st Class Packetpost
UK - £6.90 for unframed items by Royal Mail Special Delivery
UK - £8.95 for framed items.

International - Shipping is calculated before you check out according to destination.
International - Unframed by Registered AirMail or by premium express courier (select at checkout).
Very large prints are always sent by express service.

About the artist

Born in 1472 in the Franconian town of Kronach, Lucas Cranach earned his name from his birthplace. The artist, most recognised for his close association with the Protestant Reformation, was a companion of Martin Luther. Luther resided and imparted his teachings in Wittenberg, under the safeguard of the Electors of Saxony.

Cranach dedicated the majority of his life to serving not merely Friedrich the Wise, but also his successors - Johann the Steadfast and Johann Friedrich the Magnanimous. Establishing a residence in Wittenberg, Saxony, he showed unwavering loyalty to these figures. In Weimar, at a ripe age of eighty-one, Lucas Cranach breathed his last in 1553.
