About the artist
El Greco (1541-1614) was a Spanish painter, sculptor and architect of the Spanish Renaissance. He is best known for his unique style, which combined elements of the Italian Renaissance and Byzantine art. His works were heavily influenced by his religious faith, and he was a devout Catholic. El Greco was born in Crete, and moved to Spain in 1577, where he lived for the rest of his life. He was a major figure in the Spanish art world, and his works are still highly regarded today.
