About the artist
World War I marked a career shift for Scott, as he created propaganda posters for the Ministry of Munitions. In the 1920s, he diversified into advertising, developing lively images for high-profile brands such as Lifebuoy soap, Mars chocolate, and Players cigarettes.
Scott's fame escalated when he shifted to book illustrations and poster art. Despite changing tastes, he remained active, working alongside Leonard Matthews to develop comic strips for Knockout, Sun, and Thriller Comics Library, debuting Captain Flame's adventures.
Moreover, Scott produced Robin Hood strips, cover art for Thriller Comics Library, and several complete adventure picture stories, including Jane Eyre and The Dark Shadows of London. Briefly, he also designed covers for Comet and Sun and contributed artwork for the first Buck Jones Annual and the Billy the Kid Book of Picture Stories editions.
