About the artist
Eric Ravilious (1903-1942), well known for his exceptional engravings from 1920 to 1940, likely influenced O'Connor's passion for wood engraving.
At just 23 in 1937, O'Connor began illustrating books, starting with an edition of Joan Rutter's flower poems, "Here's Flowers - An Anthology of Flower Poems." Throughout his RAF service from 1940 to 1946, he continued creating wood engravings, including a depiction of a devastated Berlin when he arrived with the allied troops.
