About the artist
He kicked off his career in Berlin and moved to England in 1932, contributing significantly to London's early 1930s avant-garde design community. Schleger played a crucial role in popularizing modernism in Britain. His most famous work, the London Transport bus-stop sign, was commissioned in 1935 by Frank Pick and remains largely unaltered.
He became a British citisen in 1939 and designed posters for the War Office, Ministry for Food, and the London Passenger Transport Board during World War II. His work featured in London's 1946 Britain Can Make It exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum.
Post-war, he associated with Mather & Crowther agency before launching his own company, Hans Schleger & Associates, in 1953.
