About the artist
Sir Herbert Alker Tripp, a writer, illustrator, draughtsman, and poster artist, was born in London and followed in his father, George Tripp's, footsteps with a career in public service. This limited his time for art, but he still managed to showcase his work at the RA, RI, ROI, SMA, and Liverpool's Walker Art Gallery. He was a prolific illustrator for numerous publications and designed railway posters. Tripp penned and illustrated several books centered around aquatic themes, including The Waters of the Wight and Shoalwater and Fairway. He was knighted in 1945 and resided in Thames Ditton, Surrey.
