About the artist
His work, often reproduced by Frost & Reed Ltd, British Railways, and the Medici Society, portrayed a military-like figure. He was known for his watercolour pieces, but his most memorable works were his railway posters. These promoted British holiday destinations and were synonymous with the steam railway era, creating work for GWR, LMS, LNER & British Rail.
During wartime, Sherwin lent his expertise to the War Office, advising on airfield camouflage. Some of his pieces were even used in wartime posters. For the last four decades of his life, he resided on High Street in Cookham Village, Berkshire. His artwork was celebrated at the 2007 Cookham Festival.
