Wassily Kandinsky , born on December 16, 1866 and died on December 13, 1944, was a Russian painter and art theorist. He is credited as the pioneer of abstract art and is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He was a leader of the avant-garde movement Der Blaue Reiter and was a professor at the Bauhaus school of art. His works are characterised by a strong sense of colour and form, and his theories on art were highly influential. Kandinsky was also a pianist and a philosopher, and his works were heavily influenced by music and spiritualism.
