About the artist
They were the driving forces behind the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing (1937-78), which functioned more as a creative haven for artists than a traditional educational institution. It championed plein air painting and individual expression, fostering the talents of acclaimed artists such as Lucian Freud and Maggi Hambling.
Known for his portraits, landscapes, and studies of flowers and animals, Morris' signature bold impasto colour style was particularly apparent in his iris paintings. Beyond his artistic pursuits, his passion for botany often led him on trips to Portugal and Turkey to seek out novel plant species for cultivation at Benton End.
