About this artwork
In 1962, well known American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein created a piece called 'Masterpiece'. This artwork showcases a blonde woman having a conversation with her boyfriend 'Brad', a recurring heroic figure in many of Lichtenstein's pieces. To establish a storyline between the two characters, Lichtenstein used a thought bubble, a common technique in comic book art. For the production process, he relied on the Ben Day dots printing method, where tiny colored dots are strategically placed close together, spread apart, or overlapped on a canvas. To achieve the desired color effect, these dots were printed using the CMYK color model, which utilises only four ink plates: cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black).
