About the artist
During his time in Europe, Babcock specialised in poster design, which led to his significant role in designing posters for the Navy Department during World War I. His notable works include a 1917 poster featuring a sailor riding a torpedo.
In 1918, Babcock joined the faculty of the Art Institute's School, where he taught poster design until his resignation in 1922. His contributions to the advertising industry include a 1930 illustrated booklet for the ""Golden State Limited"" train route from Chicago to Los Angeles.
Aside from his art, Babcock was also a founding member of the Chicago Business Men's Symphony Orchestra in 1921. He died in Evanston in 1954.
