About the artist
In the early 1920s, he was one of five American fashion illustrators for Vogue stationed in Paris. His work for the magazine continued into the 1930s, during which time he lived in New York City, Paris, and Tunisia, where he eventually died.
Beyond Vogue, Woodruff also designed covers for House & Garden magazine, another Condé Nast publication, around the time of the Great War, prior to his relocation to Paris.
