About this artwork
This excellent print draws its inspiration from a pear variety, known as "Poire Tarquin." It uses a colored, hand-completed stipple engraving by Victor, an artist who was active between 1820 and 1850. Victor took inspiration from an original artwork by Pierre Joseph Redouté, a well known artist from the late 18th to early 19th century. This print is part of P. J. Redouté's collection, "Choix des plus belles fleurs," which was published in sections (each one containing four plates) in Paris from 1827 to 1833. This particular artwork is Plate 112 from that collection.
