About this artwork
This excellent print is inspired by a color-printed, manually completed stipple engraving called Geranium varieté. The work was originally engraved by Joseph Marie Bessin, who was born in 1765 and whose death is unrecorded. The original piece was done by Pierre Joseph Redouté, who lived from 1759 to 1840. The artwork is from P. J. Redouté's collection, "Choix des plus belles fleurs". The collection was published in segments (with each segment containing four plates) in Paris, over a period running from 1827 to 1833. This is plate 50 from the collection.
