About this artwork
This excellent print draws its inspiration from a color-produced, manually enhanced stipple engraving called Amaryllis: Lys St. Jacques. The engraving was done by Victor, who was active between 1820 and 1850, and it's based on an original work by Pierre Joseph Redouté, who lived between 1759 and 1840. It's a part of P.J. Redouté's selection of the most beautiful flowers, which was published in sections (each section consisted of four plates) in Paris between 1827 and 1833.This publication features 144 colored plates of flowers, and some even include insects. The collection is a tribute to Princesses Louise and Marie d'Orléans.
