About the artist
Born into a family steeped in culture, Graham found himself drawn to other forms of art from a young age, particularly music. He demonstrated considerable prowess in both vocal and instrumental music, but the demands of his artwork curtailed his further development in this area.
His grand paintings, designed to capture the sublime beauty of the Scottish Highlands, drew significant influence from the artwork of Horatio McCulloch and the poetry of Sir Walter Scott. His commitment to portraying the landscapes' awe-inspiring majesty resonated deeply with the audiences. Graham's success extended beyond the Royal Scottish Academy, reaching the Royal Academy in London in 1866.
