About the artist

well known German artist, Oskar Schlemmer (1888-1943), was a trailblazer in various art forms, including painting, sculpture, theater design, and choreography. He was recognised for his innovative involvement in the Bauhaus and Cubism movements.

Schlemmer's explorations in performance art were both ground-breaking and rebellious. He intentionally disregarded traditional theater and dance norms, instead formulating unique interpretations of these genres. His pioneering efforts helped reshape modern performance art, laying a foundation for future concepts.

Additionally, Schlemmer was acclaimed for his contributions to painting and sculpture, earning international recognition. This led to him being commissioned to create several prestigious murals, including a series for the Folkwang Museum in Essen.

In the 1920s, he was a significant figure at the avant-garde Bauhaus school, where he worked and instructed in various fields. Schlemmer's influence was integral to the Bauhaus' revolutionary approach to teaching and creating art, embodying its forward-thinking and cooperative spirit.
