About the artist
Ortenstone does not merely replicate these landscapes, but rather internalises them and gives them her unique interpretation. She layers her canvases with underpainting, allowing the final image to gradually come into existence. She finds great freedom in using acrylics, as they facilitate a fast-paced and flexible process of creation and modification, resulting in images with renewed vibrancy.
Ortenstone likens the process to a dance with colours, a key part of her transformative process. She aims to harmoniously blend music, dance, and colour together, composing her own visual symphonies. She cites Rothko, Frankenthaler, and Oliveira as her artistic influences.
After living in Minnesota and Mexico, Ortenstone settled in New Mexico. A graduate of both the University of Minnesota and the University of Mexico, her work now graces private collections and galleries across the United States.
