About the artist

Lord Frederic Leighton (1830-1896) was a British painter and sculptor who was a leading figure in the classical revival of the late 19th century. He was a founding member of the Royal Academy of Arts and was known for his classical and historical paintings, as well as his sculptures. He was heavily influenced by the Renaissance and Baroque periods, and his works often featured classical themes and figures. He was also a patron of the arts, and his home in London was a gathering place for many of the leading artists of the day.
