About the artist
John Seller, born in 1632 and died in 1697, was a talented craftsman who specialised in mathematical tools and globes. He also had a talent for publishing marine and land atlases, charts, and geographic literature. He held the prestigious position of the King's hydrographer starting from 1671. Seller's work was vast and varied, spanning standalone charts and maps to comprehensive atlases. Despite his prolific output, his ambitions were often curtailed by persistent financial issues throughout his lifetime. These monetary struggles hindered the execution of his larger-scale projects.
