About the artist
Born in 1912 and passing away in 1970, John Rawlings was a well known photographer who boasted over 200 Vogue and Glamour cover shots, along with a vast array of commercial ads. His photographic journey kicked off in 1936, when Vogue studios brought him onboard as a trainee assistant. This gave him the opportunity to rub shoulders with iconic photographers like George Hoyningen-Huene, Cecil Beaton, Horst P. Horst, and Irving Penn. With a 30-year partnership with Conde Nast, Rawlings had the chance to shoot almost every prominent star from stage, screen, and high society in the 40s and 50s, such as Marlene Dietrich, the Duchess of Windsor, Truman Capote, and Salvador Dali.
