About the artist
Kerner is best remembered for his beautiful botanical illustrations, particularly those showcased in 'Hortus sempervirens.' This masterpiece, published in twelve volumes from 1795–1830, contains selective plant images, each rendered as closely as possible to real-life examples. 'Hortus sempervirens: exhibens icones plantarum selectiorum quotquot ad vivorum exemplorum normam reddere licuit. Stuttgartiae' was issued in 71 parts, each having separate title pages and featuring 12 plates, all accompanied by descriptive letterpress.
