About this artwork

Danny Rosen got his name from a close friend of Basquiat, who was also a regular in the downtown New York's club scene. Rosen, Basquiat, and the rest of their band, Gray, were quite the spectacle in these clubs due to their out-of-the-box fashion sense and their high level of energy when dancing. This group was affectionately known as the 'Baby Crowd'.

About the artist

Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) was an American artist of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent. He rose to prominence in the 1980s as part of the Neo-expressionist movement, and his work focused on social commentary and the exploration of identity. Basquiat was heavily influenced by the New York City street culture of the time, and his work often featured graffiti-like imagery. He was also known for his collaborations with fellow artist Andy Warhol. Basquiat's life was tragically cut short at the age of 27 due to a drug overdose.
