About the artist
James McIntosh Patrick (1890-1956) was a Scottish painter and printmaker. He was a leading figure in the Colourist movement, which sought to capture the effects of light and colour in the Scottish landscape. His work was influenced by the Post-Impressionists, particularly Vincent van Gogh. Patrick was born in Glasgow and studied at the Glasgow School of Art. He was a member of the Glasgow Boys, a group of artists who sought to break away from the traditional conventions of Scottish art. He was also a member of the Royal Scottish Academy. Patrick was a prolific artist, producing a large body of work in his lifetime.
