About the artist
Jackson Pollock (1912-1956) was an American abstract expressionist painter. He was a major force in the abstract expressionist movement, and his unique style of drip painting revolutionised the art world. Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming, and grew up in Arizona and California. He was heavily influenced by Native American art and Surrealism. He was married to artist Lee Krasner and had a tumultuous personal life. Pollock's work is characterised by its energetic, chaotic and seemingly random composition.
