About the artist
Born in 1917 and died in 2009, Irving Penn was an iconic figure in the photography world of the 20th century, well known for his fascinating imagery and impeccable printmaking skills. Though he spent over six decades being one of the premier photographers for Vogue magazine, Penn was a private individual who shied away from publicity, channeling his energy towards his work with quiet, unwavering commitment. Uniquely, Penn approached photography - largely viewed as a communication tool - with an artistic flair, pushing the boundaries of the medium both in his professional assignments and personal projects. Sadly, at 92, Penn died in his New York home in 2009.
