About the artist
Born in Cambridge, Graham Stuart Thomas OBE (1909-2003), is revered as an iconic figure in the realm of horticulture. A man of many talents, including gardening design, writing, painting, and even music and poetry, Thomas spent thirty years advising the National Trust on gardens. His contributions earned him the Order of the British Empire in 1975. With a penchant for writing, he penned several acclaimed books such as 'Old Shrub Roses', 'Perennial Garden Plants', and 'Plants for Ground Cover'. Apart from the OBE, Thomas, a holder of the esteemed Victoria Medal of Honour, also received the Veitch Memorial Medal and Gold Medal from the Royal Horticultural Society for his artistic contributions.
