About the artist
Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio (1467-1516) was an Italian High Renaissance painter of the Milanese school. He was strongly influenced by Leonardo da Vinci, and his style was characterised by a soft, lyrical quality and a delicate use of colour. Boltraffio was a prolific painter, producing many works in Milan and in the Lombardy region. He was also a respected teacher, and his pupils included Bernardino Luini and Marco d'Oggiono.
