About the artist
Born on 29 November 1843 and died on 8 December 1932, Gertrude Jekyll VMH was a multitalented British woman. She made a name for herself as an artist, writer, photographer, craftswoman, garden designer, and horticulturist. Jekyll designed more than 400 gardens throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, and the U.S. Most of her life was spent in Surrey, England, more specifically at Munstead Wood, Godalming. This is where she operated a garden centre and bred an array of new plant species.
