About the artist
In 1748, he planned to publish a detailed book on molluscs and crustaceans, rich with illustrations. However, he was not pleased with the text provided by Friedrich Christian Lesser (1692-1754), leading him to delay the publication.
Invited by King Frederick V of Denmark (1723-1766), he relocated to Copenhagen and served as the king's engraver. This position enabled him to persist with his book, for which he created twelve plates, primarily coloured by his wife.
His book, titled "Choice of Shellfish and Crustaceans," was published in 1758. It was a bilingual edition in French and German, featuring a frontispiece engraved by Georg Lichtensteger and met with great success.
