About the artist
Emerick Bronson, born in 1921, drew much of his artistic inspiration from the 1950s Abstract Expressionism, a movement characterised by expressive brushwork and exploration of spirituality and the sublime. It emphasised painting techniques and equated action painting with the political liberty of America, contrasting Soviet strictness. Notable artists like Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Mark Rothko led the scene, which, though male-dominated, also saw significant contributions from female artists like Lee Krasner and Joan Mitchell.
