About the artist
Dale Payson, a former book illustrator and student at the School of Visual Arts in New York, paints oversised still lifes. By flattening perspective and bringing the background forward, she makes a bold artistic statement. Payson's vibrant use of colour is unrestrained and invigorating. One of her greatest influences is Robert Kulick, a well known picture frame designer. After living in Manhattan for 16 years, Payson settled in Columbia County and focused on capturing the beauty of her rural surroundings. Using the palette knife and oil paint, she creates textured and layered works with lively and whimsical colours.
