About the artist
Originally from Exeter, Devon, the well known landscape and portrait artist, and pedagogue was educated at Rugby School. He served in World War I in the Royal Flying Corps, during which he painted a series of aerial artworks before becoming a prisoner of war. Under the tutelage of Richard Jack and Charles Sims at London, Florence, and Royal Academy Schools, he refined his art. He taught at Rugby, Cheltenham College, and Dean Close School, also serving in camouflage during WWII. His works were displayed at numerous exhibitions and memorial shows, including a joint exhibit with his student, John Marshall.
