About the artist
Born in Battle, Sussex to a tannery businessman, Cecil Walter Bacon (1905-1992), known as "CWB," was a prominent British artist and illustrator. After attending Sutton Valence School, St Lawrence College, Ramsgate, and Hastings School of Art, Bacon joined a London advertising agency in 1926, becoming freelance in 1929. He designed posters for London Transport between 1932-1935, and during World War II, created propaganda artwork for the Ministry of Information. Post-war, Bacon contributed to British Railways, the Post Office Savings Bank, and wrote a book on scraperboard work.
