About the artist
Ben Nicholson was a British abstract painter and sculptor who was a major figure in the mid-20th century avant-garde. He was a pioneer of abstract art in Britain, and his work was heavily influenced by cubism and surrealism. Nicholson was a key member of the British modernist movement, and his work was highly influential in the development of abstract art in the UK. He was also a founding member of the influential group of artists known as the 'London Group'.
