About the artist
August William Hutaf was an American painter and sculptor known for his abstract expressionist works. He was born in New York City in 1925 and studied at the Art Students League of New York. Hutaf was a member of the American Abstract Artists group and exhibited his works in galleries and museums throughout the United States. He was also a professor of art at the University of California, Berkeley. Hutaf's works are characterised by bold colours and gestural brushstrokes, often depicting abstracted figures and landscapes.
