About this artwork
In the midst of a crimson heart, two lovers appear, their figures casting an inverse silhouette. This image captures the influence of two significant writers from the early 1900s. Sam Lewis penned lyrics for the lively Charleston dance numbers and minstrel shows that were popular during the Roaring Twenties. Peter 'Pete' Wendling was quite the busy man himself, creating numerous piano-rolls, showcasing his skills as a ragtime pianist, and even being one of the first composers to join forces with the well known Irving Berlin when he started his publishing company.
