About the artist
British cartoonist Anne Harriet Fish, known as Annie Fish (1890-1964), first emerged in the art scene through her cartoons for Stephen Leacock's comedic book "Behind the Beyond". She later collaborated with John Lane and several popular publications, gaining fame for her "Eve" illustration in The Tatler. After training under C. M. Q. Orchardson, George Belcher, and John Hassall, Fish created her distinctive style, whimsical and alive with exaggerated characters, which some likened to Aubrey Beardsley's, a comparison she humbly refuted.
