Andy Warhol's iconic Campbell's Soup Cans are some of the most well known and acclaimed pieces in art history. Around 1961, Warhol started creating his Campbell’s Soup Can art series, which would transform in a variety of ways in the coming years. The Ferus style of Campbell’s Soup can art, named after the thirty-two individual can paintings displayed at the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles, are the most well-known and extensive of Warhol's Campbell’s Soup series. For these pieces, Warhol painted the iconic red and white cans, using a product list provided by the Campbell Soup Company as reference and ticking off each soup variety as he completed it. A subsequent Campbell’s Soup Can series created around 1965 showcased nineteen differently colored cans. With these pieces, Warhol not only used unconventional ink colors but also spray painted the backgrounds and the lower (white) part of the label in various colors. The outcome was a collection that was both surprising and familiar. Through these innovative pieces, Warhol revolutionised our perspective on art.
