About this artwork

Albrecht Dürer, a well known painter, printmaker, and theorist from the German Renaissance era, created the watercolour masterpiece 'Squirrels' in 1512. The painting showcases his almost photographic accuracy in detail, especially noticeable in the tail of the lighter squirrel. The playful and lively vibe of the squirrels munching on hazelnuts is beautifully captured in this piece.

About the artist

Albrecht Dürer was a German painter, printmaker, and theorist of the Renaissance period. He was born in Nuremberg in 1471 and is best known for his woodcuts, engravings, and paintings. His works are well known for their technical skill and detail, and he is considered one of the greatest artists of the Northern Renaissance. He was also a mathematician and philosopher, and wrote extensively on the theory of art.
