About the artist
Albert Swayhoover (1919-1994) was an American abstract expressionist painter and sculptor. He was born in New York City and studied at the Art Students League of New York. He was a member of the American Abstract Artists group and was influenced by the works of Wassily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian. He was also a professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Swayhoover's works are characterised by their bold colours and geometric shapes. He was known for his large-scale abstract paintings and sculptures.
