The Circle, c.1884

Camille Pissarro

#213109

Camille Pissarro was a Danish-French painter and a key figure in the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art movements. Around 1880 Pissarro began an extensive campaign to record the roles of village folk in the yearly planting and harvest cycle. ‘The Circle’ depicts village women engaged in an impromptu circle dance celebrating the culmination and success of their recent harvest.

Danish-French painter Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) was a key figure for both Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. He learned from the best, including Gustave Courbet and later studied and worked alongside Georges Seurat and Paul Signac. These stunning landscapes show Pissarro's skill perfectly.
